The first few days of a new jobs is often a nerve-wracking experience for most people. There are new people, new customs and whole time people are thinking about making a good impression. Mine is no different, I was also very nervous thinking about how it’s going to be?

During First two days, we had IT Induction, Company Introductory Session, POSH and Finance Session which basically made us understand the basic overview of what company does and few company policies. At the end of the second day we were introduced to Pre Bootcamp. For last 2 weeks we had multiple sessions about various Team Introductions, Open Source Project Introductions and few sessions on improving our soft skills.

In Team Introduction, we have been introduced to respective team about what respective team works on and how they evolved over a period of time. They also talked about the challenges they face while developing highly scalable applications. All teams had their own challenges and every teams tackle their problems in different way. With their experience in the field, Tech Leads told us few key mantras to get success like always keep asking questions, communicate with your team etc. At the end of each Introduction session, we had Q & A, where we used to ask crazy questions 😅 but they were happy to answer all of them. Team Introductions gave us very broad idea of what each team does and importance of each team.

During Open Source Introductions, we were introduced to the open source projects which Gojek maintains. Open source Introductions were very resourceful as we got to know about each project in depth. Open source projects like Ziggurat, Proctor, Kafka and Darkroom were very exciting. These open source projects are used by every team across Gojek and also the outsiders.

As a part of soft skills sessions we had session on writing tips where we understood the importance of documentation. We were also given a assignment on writing a Blog on “What is the most interesting technology you have used/learned ?”. Before writing the blog I never thought I can do something like that but surprisingly I wrote a blog on An Introduction to Hyperledger Fabric — Blockchain.

While these sessions were going on we were also given a small clean code project which we had to do it in pair. Meanwhile I was also introduced to my team over a Virtual Coffee where my team pranked on me and other guy. The team meeting was fun.

If I summaries these past few weeks, It has been great experience learning about what Gojek is about and how they do what they do. From the experience of these few weeks, I can say that People here at Gojek are very supportive and they have given us sense of belongingness. So I am really looking forward to solve some crazy problems with Team.
