“Don’t stop chasing your dreams, because dreams do come true.”

The quoted statement said by the person today I am going to talk about. Yes he’s the GOD OF CRICKET Sachin Tendulkar. Having been grown up in India where cricket is religion, like millions other people I grew up idolising Sachin.

There are Innumerable players who have played cricket and made themselves famous and then there is Sachin who played cricket and made cricket famous. He has played cricket for unbelievable 24 years. At the age of 16, when most of us didn’t have any clue of what we want to do, Sachin made his International debut.

Mathrubhumi

Everyone talks about his records as a batsman which suggests that Sachin is the one of the best cricketer who ever played a game. But that’s only one side of it. For playing a sport for 24 years, It takes a lot. In any cricketer’s career, there are times when you’re under the pump and that’s the time when your ability to counter challenges gets tested. Just imagine for someone who has played a game for 24 years, How many times he has made comebacks? Let me tell you one of those.

India were playing Test series against their arch-rival team Australia in 2003–04. Sachin was struggling to score runs. Specifically Sachin was getting out playing cover drive which his favourite shot. In the 4th test, Sachin decided not to play cover drive. In the 1st Innings of 4th test, Sachin faced 436 balls and didn’t play even single cover drive and scored his highest ever test score 241. That inning of him shows the discipline and self confidence he had in his ability.

Now I want to talk about the Impact Sachin had on Indian psyche. I remember MS Dhoni saying that “In childhood, I used to switch off my TV when Sachin gets out”. Among currently playing cricketers 7/10 will say that they have started playing cricket because of Sachin. Another quality of Sachin which I like is his Respect for the game. During 24 years of his cricketing career Sachin has been wrongly given out many times but he never showed any disrespect towards umpire.

“What sets Sachin apart from others is his humbleness, though we all say Sachin — The Master Blaster, Sachin never considers himself to be the master of the game but rather a student of the game” — Harsha Bhogle

In his career, Sachin has played with players who started playing cricket idolising him. Sachin always made sure that there is no barrier between him and other players. Sachin was always approachable. He would make other players feel extremely comfortable. Not only that, Cricketers like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh have said that they learned how to be good human being from Sachin. These also shows that Sachin was and is great motivator.

“Do not allow success to breed arrogance in you. If you remain humble, people will give you love and respect even after you have finished with the game. As a parent, I would be happier hearing people say, “Sachin is a good human being” than “Sachin is a great cricketer” any day.”- Ramesh Tendulkar (Sachin’s Father)

Being Honest is very important in any person’s life and Sachin indeed was very honest towards the game. On many instances where Sachin is out, he will just walk off without waiting for the umpire decision. Honest people attract a lot of positive vibes, and people are attracted to them creating a positive environment around them.

Over the years, As I grew older I got to know more and more about Sachin and As I got to know more about him, My respect towards him increased. I have learned lots of lessons and will continue to learn more. Thank you Sachin for being Idol for millions of people.
